Long Answer Questions
1.    What is silk and how it is made?
Answer: Silk is produced from silk worm. Silk fibre is obtained from the cocoons of the silk moth. There are four stages in the life cycle of silk moth: eggs, larva, pupa and adult. The larva of the silk moth is called caterpillar. It secretes a sticky fluid fibroin from its salivary gland. This sticky fluid forms a long thread. This thread is then wrapped around the body of the caterpillar and forms cocoon. After this stage, the larva becomes a pupa and then turns into an adult moth. Silk is a costly fabric. Silk fibre is used for weaving cloth ; especially traditional dresses in India; like sari, kurta, shawl and other wedding clothes. Silk had always been prized for its lustre and fine quality.

2.    Explain the steps in making cotton yarn?
Answer: a. First of all, raw cotton is loosened and cleaned in order to remove straw and dried leaves.
b. Then the cotton is fed into machine. This converts the cotton fibre into rope like structure called silver.
 c. The silver of cotton fibre is converted into yarn through spinning by using the machines.

 3. Name and explain different types of fibre?
Answer: Four main types of fibre are natural fibres, synthetic fibre, plant fibre and animal fibre. Fibres obtained from plant and animal are known as natural fibres. Such as cotton, jute etc. Fibres produced in the industries are known as synthetic fibre. Such as nylon. Fibre obtained from plant source are known as plant fibre such as cotton and jute. Fibre obtained from animal source is known as animal fibre such as silk and wool.
