Write the below points in notebook than complete Ex. 2.1 from the textbook.
Key Points:
- The successor is one more than the given number. All whole numbers have a successor.
- The predecessor is one less than the given number. All whole numbers except 0 has a predecessor.
- To represent the whole numbers on the line, draw a line and mark a point 0 on it; thereafter mark the points 1, 2, 3, .... such that all the points are equidistant from each other.
- On a number line, we move to the right after the first number in addition and we move to the leftof the first number in subtraction. Multiplication corresponds to making jumps of equal distancestarting from zero.
14/4/20
Done explanation of properties of Whole Numbers
Key Points:
- The sum of two whole numbers is a whole number, similarly the product of two whole numbers is also a whole number. But it does not hold true in subtraction and division.
- If a, b and c are whole numbers, then
- a. a + b = b + a
- b. a × b = b × a
- c. (a + b) + c = a + (b + c)
- d. (a – b) – c ≠ a – (b – c)
- e. (a × b) × c = a × (b × c)
- f. a × (b + c) = a × b + a × c
- g. a × (b – c) = a × b – a × c
- h. a + 0 = a
- i. a × 0 = 0
- j. a × 1 = a
- If a is a non zero whole number, then 0 ÷ a = 0 and a ÷ 0 is not defined.
- Division algorithm:Dividend = divisor × quotient + remainder
